I'm under there somewhere...

Polar bear fell on me...

Anyway lots to do this week. My Micro test is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, so I'll probably be leaving home around Saturday night or early Sunday morning to get back to study for that.
Frisbee game at 2 though next Saturday (suh-weet), and my brother is coming down to Dallas this Monday (double suh-weet). I am ready for school to be done. I am ready for these finals to be done. Ugh.

Last night I saw "Hable con ella," (got it through Netflix), which I was assured was a good movie, I'd cry when I saw it, Spain is beautiful, blah blah blah.
... I hated it. The more I think back on the story, the way it was shot, the idea behind it... that movie was terrible. If you want to see a movie about decent human beings with some shred of common sense and/or grip on reality... see Road House. If you want to see a director trying to stir up superficial sympathy for a character who turns out to be a monster... see this movie. Or if you like coma-rape.
Apparently the Academy does, or the movie wouldn't have gotten 2003 Best Screenplay.
So yes. Apology to la ardilla, who sat through that movie with me. I think at this point I would have preferred to sit through that six hour "Pride and Predjudice" miniseries on A&E.

Anyway, I'm tired. Ready for a break. Looking forward to seeing my family. Soon enough I suppose. Just need to get through the next three weeks.

Elk violence on the rise...

I believe today should be a cautionary post for my blog. As you all remember, last May an elk stole a families bicycle in Sweden. Perhaps for a joy ride, perhaps to pawn it, we don't know. All we know is that the bike was taken 500 meters and in considerable disrepair.
The government of Sweden and the international community was lax in its retribution on the elk community for this heinous act. And now, emboldened by the sweet alcohol of fermented apples, the elk have struck again, this time at a retirement facility. Imagine your beloved senior citizens under seige by drunk and abusive elk!
"Watch der window der Lina, da moose is loose."
"Oh, Olaf. I'm so frightened."
*elk looks evilly into window with alchoholic-glazed-over-stare*

What next? Elk making raids on the Volvo plants? Elk stealing babies in the dead of winter to feed their carnivorous-baby-eating-needs?!?!? Elk riding in the Tour de France?!?! OH THE HUMANITY!!!

There is a clear pattern here, people! These antlered foes must be stopped, and if the Swedish aren't' man enough to go Viking on them, then we'll just have to do it ourselves! Anyone? Viking? Viking? Anybody? Come on, folks! Horned helmets, squirrel skins and awesome boats! Pillage and plunder? Anyone? Olaf, I'm looking at you.

The enemy...

Basking in the glow of it...

So I am kicking back with my reward/treat/celebration for the week. A New Belgium Blue Paddle Pilsener Lager.... and seeing as I haven't had a beer since just after the macro exam... it's sooooooo gooooooood. I just wish I had a Fat Tire to add to the mix, but alas... no. Maybe a second Blue Paddle (gasp!). But new Belgium (as delicious and satisfying as it is) is not good enough for this occasion. No this occasion would call for the finest Irish Whiskey, the most savory Scotch, or perhaps even some champagne. Why?

My charming, beautiful, sweet sister is engaged to a charming, handsome, and caring young man. It's about frikkin time. After watching the sad parade of bozos, wastes-of-space, scum-bags, and even the occasional "poster-boy-for-birth-control" my sister brought home a boy who seemed decent. And then of course my brother and I did everything we could to scare the pobrecito off. Shame on us. We were wrong, blah blah blah, that doesn't matter now. She's engaged to some one who just might actually deserve her... hm... aaaaannnnnnnnd:
MY SISTER'S GETTIN HITHCED!!! YEEEEEEE-HAWWWWW! ... I've been in Texas too long.

Plus I had a great time with my parents, and la ardilla. Friday night we went to dinner at my parents' friends house. Afterwards la ardilla and I went to a party with her friends, ate some cake, danced a little, and enjoyed the evening. This morning my parents and I ate at Kuby's, then met la ardilla to walk to the Katy Trail, which was fun (and also when we first heard the news from my sister's boy,who called to ask dad for permission... awwwww). Then naptime for everyone. Then we met at the hotel and went to a restaurant at Mockingbird Station (swank). Had good food, and watched mom stare intently at the phone until it finally rang with my sister telling us the good news.
And now I'm home. Nursing a beer. Not thinking about my micro test a couple days ago (ugh). Basking in the glow of it...

So... here's to hoping they have a wedding on the cape, in Tulsa, in Dallas, in Washington, in Tahiti, anywhere BUT LAWRENCE. If they decide to go back to KS... fine... I'll go with it. But please... please... no more Lawrence weddings!

Happy dance times... ooh. My beer is almost empty. Time for that second cold one. And then... sleep... probably.
Yes. Definitely a good weekend. Which is good seeing as that Micro test sucked.
