Poisoning Pidgeons in the Park

So after about two weeks of below freezing weather, and maybe two days of the dreaded "wintry mix", Spring has hit. And when Spring hits down here, she hits hard and fast. The blooms have barely started, but the weather is definitely Spring. We have already had a couple of thunderstorms, and the wind is cooling the usual high of 65 or 70. Yeah, I know you're jealous.

Ardilla and I went to White Rock Saturday morning to enjoy the weather, and of course search for "Papa Yella". There were a couple that we creeped out that I thought were him, but we ended the morning with no sightings. We just managed to probably freak out every black man on a bicycle, since we stared at them as they passed, me holding a camera in one hand, and were probably heard making comments like, "Is that him?" "No too young." "Him?" "No, not fat enough." "You think that's him?" "He's got a grey beard... but still not big enough." As Ardilla pointed out, "Maybe it's better we didn't see him. If Big-Foot walked into the city every now and then, it just wouldn't be as big a deal." Very deep. But I had camera ready and everything. What would have happened if we'd seen him? Well I probably would have peeled off after him on foot trying to take pictures... so maybe it's better we didn't. That would have been odd to explain. Plus the photos would have been blurry.

Went to the TSA (Turkish Student Association) lunch the other day. Some of the department students were helping organize and serve food. So naturally we all showed up to support them... and get free baklava, kabob, rice, and salad. Eating free food is part of supporting. I skipped the ISA (Indian Student Association) talent show though. I just don't think I could've taken three hours of anything last night. So I watched Fistful of Dollars instead. Fistful of AWESOME! ... that's my official movie review there. Compare that to, "The Blair Suck Project" and "Open Water"s pithy review of: "Blair Witch in a pool." Four hours of my life that I will just never get back...

So I will watch the oscars tonight, if only to see Jon Stewart hosting. Of the nominees I've seen Brokeback Mountain, and Walk the Line. Both of which, I admit, were good, but I'm not sure I understand why they were nominated. I'm pulling for Phillip Seymour Hoffman from Capote, mainly because I've liked everything else he's done and I think the guy is due. But I haven't seen the movie. So I guess I'm going to just be totally lost while watching the oscars. At least I can laugh at Jon Stewart's jokes.

Dude, blurry photos of Papa Yella would be awesome! That would actually increase his stock as an urban legend. ;)

Ah, "poisoning pigeons in the part"...such wonderful memories. What was the name of the group that did that song?
And what did you think of the Oscars? Was Jon everything you hoped he would be? (See Raoul's blog.)
It's always an interesting show for me...Grandma and I used to buy the Oscar People magazine (and the Grammy one and the Golden Globes one) and laugh at the dresses. Or what passes for dresses. Or something.
