Obviously longer school years will cost more. There's no two ways about it. So let's all buck up, raise some state and local taxes, find some cost cutting, issue bonds, have a bake sale, and search for funding in whatever way we can to get these kids the education they need.
Why? Because I spent fifteen minutes on Monday first explaining to the half of my class that was struggling how to divide 87 by 3, and then explaining to them why it is not okay for third and fourth year economics undergraduates to not be able to do arithmetic.
I'm open to alternative suggestions though.
